The Holy Trinity Goes to Belgium: Broad Arrow's Zoute Sale, Previewed

On 9 October, Broad Arrow's second Zoute Concours Auction offers the 918 Spyder, LaFerrari and P1 in a single room, plus a 1990 MCA Centenaire, Monaco's forgotten supercar. It is the autumn's most interesting test of what the hybrid hypercar era is worth.

On Friday 9 October, Broad Arrow Auctions holds its second annual Zoute Concours Auction at the Approach Golf in Knokke-Heist, Belgium, inside the Zoute Grand Prix Car Week (7 to 11 October; the Concours d'Elegance by ING Private Banking follows on 10 and 11 October). The headline consignment is a collector's thought experiment made real: the Holy Trinity, complete, in one room.

The Trinity has always been discussed as a set; now bidders must price it as one.

Three cars, one era

The trio: a 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder Weissach, described as the only known European-delivery car in Sport Classic Grey; a Ferrari LaFerrari in rare Grigio Ferro with a recent high-voltage battery replacement; and a McLaren P1 showing just 293 km in MSO Storm Grey. The 918, the LaFerrari and the P1 defined the 2010s hybrid hypercar era, the moment electrification arrived at the top of the market not as compromise but as the performance answer. A decade on, they have become a collectible cohort.

The details of each consignment matter. The LaFerrari's replaced high-voltage battery is a meaningful provenance note: battery health is now a condition question for hybrid hypercars, and a fresh pack removes a buyer's biggest unknown. The P1's 293 km makes it essentially a delivery-mileage car. Pre-sale estimates for the three were not published in the auction release, which leaves the room to discover the cohort's current level.

Around the Trinity, the catalogue keeps the standard high: a 2005 Carrera GT in Guards Red, a 2010 Ferrari 599 GTO, a 2022 Ferrari 812 Competizione in Blu Tour de France, a 2020 Ferrari 488 Pista Piloti, and a 1992 Jaguar XJ220.

The car almost nobody knows

The sale's intellectual anchor is a 1990 MCA Centenaire, the first of five, carrying a pre-sale estimate of 900,000 to 1,200,000 euros. Monte Carlo Automobile was founded in 1985 by Fulvio-Maria Ballabio, a former Formula 2 and CART driver, who assembled an extraordinary staff: technical director Carlo Chiti, the engineer behind engines for Scuderia Ferrari and Autodelta, plus former Alfa Romeo sporting director Pierluigi Corbari, Formula 1 specialist Marcel Zunnino and former F1 driver and constructor Guglielmo Bellasi.

The Centenaire was the first supercar built in Monaco, timed to the 1990 centenary of the Automobile Club de Monaco and presented to Prince Albert II. Broad Arrow describes it as the world's first road-going supercar with a carbon-fibre chassis. Power comes from a Lamborghini 5.2-litre V12, the Countach 5000 QV unit, through a ZF six-speed manual. This example was originally retained by the Lamborghini factory and was displayed at Rétromobile in 2007. Modern Car Collector reports that two development cars were clocked at roughly 220 mph on the Mulsanne Straight during Le Mans testing, a claim that, attributed, tells you how seriously this tiny operation took speed. Consignment consultant Jean-Louis Baldanza says: "Offered from the same collection as the Lamborghini Pregunta concept car sold at our 2025 Zoute Concours Auction, this car has been exceptionally well cared for by its knowledgeable and fastidious owner and is now ready to be shown to the world."

The analysis: a cohort test

Zoute matters because it is consolidating a European autumn auction slot next to a concours, and because this catalogue asks a real market question. The Trinity has always been discussed as a set; now bidders must price it as one. Do the three trade on a shared curve, or does each era's technology read differently a decade later? The MCA Centenaire, by contrast, tests something else entirely: whether obscurity with genuine engineering substance can command seven figures when the room is full of famous metal.

ROAD & MOTOR will report the results after the 9 October sale. The estimates to beat are published only for the Centenaire; for the Trinity, the room decides.
