Editorial Standards

Road & Motor is an editorial publication, not a marketing channel. These standards bind every article we publish: no article appears without a named masthead byline, stated sources and real photography of named automobiles.

Written by editors, signed by name

Every article carries the byline of one of our twelve contributing editors. We do not publish anonymous articles and we do not grant anonymity to sources; if a claim cannot be attributed, it does not appear. The masthead is published on our contributors page.

No invented material

We never invent facts, quotations, interviews, specifications, prices, production figures, auction results, provenance, lap times, designers, delivery dates or driving impressions. If a fact cannot be verified, we leave it out or say plainly that it is unknown. Manufacturer and critic descriptions are attributed to their source, and firsthand driving impressions appear only when a Road & Motor representative actually drove the vehicle.

Verification

Factual claims are traced to named, checkable sources. Figures about markets, production and finance come from the underlying filings, reports or reputable reporting, and we say which. When two credible sources disagree, we say so and explain the figure we report.

Values and money, stated precisely

Automobiles are not presented as guaranteed investments. Every figure about value is identified by type: estimate, hammer price, price including buyer's premium, asking price or verified transaction, with date and context. A price without its type is not a fact we will print.

Real photography

Photographs of named automobiles, events, collections and objects are real photographs, credited to their makers and published under applicable rights. A photograph never depicts a car, place or person it does not actually show, and captions say what the image shows. We do not present generated imagery as documentary photography of a real car.

Independence

Editorial and commercial content are separate. Access to vehicles, events and technical information does not purchase coverage, and any material commercial relationship is disclosed in the article. Paid content, when it exists, is labelled as such and never appears as editorial.

Driving, written responsibly

We write about performance without glorifying dangerous behaviour on public roads. We do not encourage reckless driving, street racing or illegal driving, and track performance is clearly contextualised where discussed.
